History of the Port Townsend Athletic Club    

The Port Townsend Athletic Club was originally founded in 1983, by John Buhler and Bernie Lundgrun who turned the Port Townsend Brewing Company into an Athletic Club. The athletic club was a place to play racquetball and use free weights.

In the mid 90’s, the Port Townsend Athletic Club was purchased and operated by Henry and Nina Noble. Nina owned and operated PTAC until September 2007, when Teresa and Tim Hoffmann purchased the club. Teresa and Tim also own and operate Steelhead Marine Inc. in the Port Townsend Shipyard. Teresa worked out of PTAC for personal training for many years, and developed fondness for the location, facility and members. This local couple has given PTAC a substantial face lift, and continues to renovate the facility. “We are excited to offer Port Townsend a fun, hip downtown community gym." Teresa saw this as an opportunity to offer Port Townsend a unique and fun health facility. "We are committed to turning this club into a cutting edge health facility!”

The uniqueness of this historic building brings a local feel of Port Townsend to our facility. Members are always surprised at the space available inside. “Our goal is to use this historic building to our advantage, and keep the feel of Port Townsend alive inside.” Unlike many large corporate clubs, PTAC offers personal attention and care to all of its members.

Through the renovation process, Teresa and Tim were careful to use all environmentally friendly and local products. From the paint, to the carpet, the upstairs renovation was done with care and consideration. The continued growth of PTAC will give more opportunities to expand our services from the inside, out.

We continue to grow as a downtown community gym. As our membership increases; more equipment, programs and services are being added. Teresa, Tim and all the staff are committed to create a place where community members can learn to embrace healthy lifestyles. “I want our members to have a sense of pride and ownership at our club."
